BOHEMIANS WIN IN OLOLMOUC BUT LATE SIP GOAL ENDS THE KLOKKANI SEASON

Bohemians 1905: The Kangaroos bow out of the Chance Liga season with their heads held high. Despite being forced into late lineup adjustments, they showed immense resilience and tactical discipline to completely erase a two-goal deficit. Frühwald was exceptional in goal, and the offensive duo of Ristovski and Matoušek executed their game plan perfectly. Ultimately, they fell just short in a war of attrition during extra time

Team preformances

Sigma Olomouc: It was far from a flawless performance from the Hanáci, who nearly threw away a comfortable aggregate lead on home turf. Sejk's missed penalty and lack of clinical edge upfront put them in severe jeopardy. However, the individual brilliance of Jáchym Šíp-who created numerous chances before scoring the winner-and some crucial defensive interventions ultimately pulled them through to the play-off final against Karviná.

Match Overview

In a grueling, weather-tested second-leg semifinal in the Chance Liga placement group, Bohemians 1905 fell agonizingly short of a historic comeback. Entering the match in the Haná metropolis under the pressure of a 3-1 first-leg deficit, the "Kangaroos" put up a heroic fight, winning 2-1 on the night and wiping away the aggregate lead in regulation. However, a dramatic 118th-minute header from Olomouc's Jáchym Šíp shattered Prague's hearts, sending Sigma through to the playoff final against Karviná on a 4-3 aggregate victory.

Key Match Events

First Half: Missed Penalty and Bohemians Strike First

Sigma Olomouc, managed by Pavel Hapal, started the brighter of the two teams, utilizing their two-goal cushion to dictate early proceedings. The hosts looked dangerous early, with Ahmad Ghali setting up Václav Sejk, though the forward's initial header failed to trouble Bohemians goalkeeper Tomáš Frühwald.

The definitive flashpoint of the opening minutes came around the 15-to-20-minute mark. Ghali slipped a clever pass into the box to Štěpán Beran, who was brought down by an onrushing Frühwald. Referee Panský pointed to the penalty spot. Sejk stepped up to convert, opting for raw power over placement, but his thunderous effort rattled violently off the crossbar and escaped.

Bohemians made the hosts pay heavily for their wastefulness in the 31st minute. After missing key tactical options like defender Kareem and forward Drchal, the reshuffled Kangaroos found their breakthrough. Wingback Vala fed captain Lukáš Hůlka on the right flank. Hůlka's subsequent cross was poorly dealt with by Sigma defender Sylla, and Milan Ristovski took full advantage, coolly slotting a low drive past Jan Koutný into the bottom left corner to make it 1-0.

Second Half: Matoušek Erases the Deficit

Sigma came out energized after the break, with Sejk forcing Frühwald into a couple of routine low saves, and later blasting an effort wide after a neat setup by Šíp. At the other end, Bohemians center-back David Lischka put in a commanding defensive shift to neutralize dangerous crosses from Jan Baráth.

In the 61st minute, Bohemians completed their comeback. Jan Matoušek broke loose in behind the Sigma defense, driving forward and unleashing a precise, low shot past Koutný to double the lead on the night and draw the aggregate score level at 3-3.

The goal ignited a frantic response from Olomouc. Just three minutes later, Šíp delivered a delicate cross onto the head of Louis Lurvink, forcing a truly spectacular, point-blank save from Frühwald to keep the Kangaroos alive. With neither side able to break the deadlock in the remaining minutes of regular time, the match headed into a grueling extra period.

Extra Time: Heartbreak in the Dying Minutes

Fatigue set in rapidly, but both sides had glorious chances to end it. Right at the start of extra time, Bohemians' Vladimír Zeman found himself in a promising position close to goal but fired his effort over the crossbar. In the 100th minute, Šíp flashed a dangerous, driving shot across the face of the goal, narrowly missing the far post.

Just as a penalty shootout seemed inevitable, the decisive blow was struck in the 118th minute. Matěj Mikulenka delivered a perfectly weighted, lofted cross into the box. Šíp met it beautifully, sending an uncompromisng header past Frühwald to send the home crowd into raptures and deny Bohemians a fairytale ending.

We learned from the first match. SK Sigma Olomouc started the game very strongly and put us under pressure, but that spell ended with the missed penalty. It woke us up, and we made tactical adjustments that really helped us. From that point on, the match was evenly balanced. We managed to create dangerous situations and probably deserved to turn the game in our favor. In extra time, though, it becomes all or nothing. Both teams had stretches where they could have scored. It’s painful to concede like that so late in the game.

Quotes from the managers

JAROSLAV VESELÝ

PAVEL HAPAL

I think we started the match well. We were composed on the ball, but we failed to deliver in the final third. Bohemians Praha 1905 changed their style of play, sitting deep and defending in a compact block, and we couldn’t find a way to deal with it. There were also too many underwhelming individual performances in the attacking phase. We had over 70 percent possession, yet we didn’t register a single shot on target in the first half. That’s something we have to improve moving forward. If we had converted the penalty in the first half, the match probably would have unfolded differently — but football isn’t played on “what ifs.”
